frequently asked Q's
Somatic therapy uses body-based approaches to psychotherapy with the intention of exploring and restoring the nervous system's capacity to be in relationship: with ourselves, our kin, and our world. We first practice this by learning to be with our emotions and sensations with tenderness and care.
Somatic therapy sessions are experiential, and may include breathing, exploring body sensations and feelings, processing patterns of constriction and emotion in the body, or using nonverbal forms of expression such as art or gentle movement. For more information, check out our Somatic Therapy page, dedicated to offering more information and resources on body-based psychotherapy approaches.

Traditional talk therapy sessions usually last about 50 minutes. My model blends 50min or 75min "talk" sessions with 2hr experiential somatic bodywork sessions. You can look at the differences between these two practices here.
When working with the body, some folks might prefer to have a longer space to process and integrate, while others may benefit from the slow but impactful approach of spacing the work out into smaller sessions (titration). I blend shorter and longer sessions in our therapy plan to make space for nonverbal somatic trauma processing and verbal (talk) integration sessions.
Sessions are $175 per hour for individuals, $200 for couples/relationships. Psychotherapy services are covered by many health benefits providers, and HST is no longer charged on Psychotherapy services in Ontario.
